Starflash describes a celestial phenomenon that the composer witnessed in the summer of 2005 gazing at the night sky over the Greek island of Kos. He saw two shooting stars coming from different directions, approaching each other and burning up. This piece begins with a fanfare representing the vastness of space, followed by the flight of the shooting stars. Characteristic Greek dance elements are interwoven with themes in the style of film music. In the middle section, a bolero with an oriental flair sets in, symbolizing the close mainland of Turkey with the lights shining at night. Thanks to its unconventional rhythms and catchy melodies, Starflash is an easily accessiblemusical description of a personal experience in a modern symphonic style.

Im Sommer 2005 sah der Komponist am Nachthimmel über der griechischen Insel Kos zwei Sternschnupppen aufeinander zu fliegen und verglühen. Von diesem seltenen Ereignis inspiriert, entstand das Stück Starflash. Die Musik setzt mit einer Fanfare ein, die das Weltall und den Flug der Sternschnuppen beschreibt. Weitere Zutaten sind griechische Tanzelemente, filmmusikalische Themen sowie orientalische Klänge, die an das nahe türkische Festland erinnern. Starflash ist dank seiner unkonventionellen Rhythmen und der eingängigen Melodien ein leicht zugängliches musikalisches Stimmungsbild im modernen sinfonischen Stil.

Au courant de l’été 2005, Otto M. Schwarz observe dans le ciel nocturne de l’île grecque de Kos, deux étoiles filantes qui glissent sur la vo te du firmament, se rencontrent puis se consument. Séduit par ce phénomène céleste, il choisit de livrer ses impressions dans une œuvre atmosphérique qu’il intitule Starflash.La fanfare d’ouverture témoigne de l’immensité de l’espace, quand soudain, deux étoiles filantes zèbrent, le temps d’un instant magique et éphémère, le ciel nocturne. Starflash développe un canevas proche de la musique de film où s’enchevêtrent des éléments caractéristiques des danses grecques. La texture sonore du passage central (boléro) estorientale et rappelle la proximité de l’île avec les côtes turques dont les lumières dans la nuit rayonnent au loin. Les rythmes sont peu conventionnels et les lignes mélodiques évoluent avec générosité travers une écriture symphonique moderne.
