The work presents an exercise in smooth playing with very little use of the pedal. This can be achieved by careful fingering, especially in the left hand, for which I have suggested fingering. Practically no fingering is shown for the right hand, and the player should work out how best to achieve the legato effect, ideally with little or no extra pedalling. Players with small hands may need a little more use of the pedal than has been suggested.
