Composed by Steven Monrotus. Contemporary Classical,Repertoire,Technique Training,Recital. Score. 8 pages. Published by Steven Monrotus (S0.429033).

This is a brisk, energetic etude composed for an organ with 2 manuals and pedals minimum.  It is written in 3-part (trio) texture (STB) in simple duple time, one moving line being assigned to each hand and one to the pedal.  Never are there more than three notes sounding, simultaneously.  This piece lacks an alto part and teaches the entire instrument, thus the left hand and pedal parts are permitted to cross and STB voice ranges are exceeded.  Its theme passes through 4 nearly related keys and is treated both right side up and inverted.  This is a technical study which can be employed as preparation for the study of the 6 Bach Trio Sonatas for 2 manuals and pedal, a collection which also begins in the key of Eb Major but are longer and a bit more difficult.  Once learned, this Trio would be useful for recitals, instruction, as a character piece, and to help maintain technique.  It also teaches the performer how to practice.  This piece is more difficult to play than it looks, but learning it will pay big dividends.  Because the texture of this work is thin and every voice has to sound just at the right time, it's best to practice each line slowly and separately, one at a time (right hand alone, left hand alone, pedal alone), then put 2 lines together (right hand and pedal, left hand and pedal, both hands together) before putting all 3 lines together.  Slow practice (at half concert tempo) of divided parts is the key to learning any new repertoire like this.  In this work the bass part romps all over the entire pedalboard (as any etude which teaches pedal technique should), but the stretch for the hands is kept at an octave or less.  A bright 8-foot flute registration in the right hand, with string or color reed tone in the left hand and 16- and 8-foot flute tone drawn in the Pedal, is suggested.  Length:  84 measures.  Duration:  2:35.  Composer Bio page:  OrganBench.com                  .
