Vocalises.

The five short miniatures for two singers and five instruments were commissioned by the Miller Theatre at Columbia University in New York in 2014. The performers of the world premiere were the baritone singer Jeffrey Gavett and the countertenor Kai Wessel. Originally composed for countertenor and low alto voice, Five Action Sketches can also be performed by other voices.

The cycle is composed for low alto and countertenor, but it is possible to perform it with the following voices: baritone with falsetto and Countertenor; low alto and Countertenor; two matching countertenors; two matching low altos.
