Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891946).This piece by John Coltrane was recorded in 1960 on Atlantic Records, but was only released 10 years later on the album 'The Coltrane Legacy'. Coltrane based 26-2 on Charlie Parkers 'Confirmation', but altered it slightly using his famous 'Coltrane Changes' system of over writing the melody and harmonies.
Scored for 5 Saxophones, this is not for the faint-hearted!! But should engender some focused practice sessions!
Incidentally, 26-2 was originally an untitled track on the 1960 album, Trane brought it into the studio at the last minute, and after 26 takes on day 2 it was labelled as such by the producer, 26-2, and the name just seemed to stick!
