Xylophone Duo Feature. Composed by Alex Orfaly. Score and parts. Duration 5:00. Published by C. Alan Publications (CN.16490).

A lighthearted ragtime duo that features two exceptional xylophonists.

It is my intention that there be a color difference between the two solo xylophones either by using different mallets or by using one wood xylophone and one synthetic xylophone. In either event the difference should be subtly noticeable. At many times, off-beats are included in the lowest marimba part. I have done this to make the accompaniment parts less demanding. If desired, these off beats from Marimba three can be left out and added to the chords of either Marimba 1 or 2. To allow switching from accompaniment parts to melodic parts, the Vibraphone and Marimbas 1 and 2 all require 3 or 4 mallets. Attention should be paid to the articulations of the Vibraphone part. The motor should be switched on, for the Vibraphone as well. For the crotales, either octave may be used. If crotales are not available, this part should be omitted all together. The crotales should be played with a very small and light brass mallet. (aka a Magic Flute bell mallet) As with my other ragtime compositions, Big Bob's Return should be performed in a lighthearted spirit. I hope that this unique ragtime for solo xylophones proves to be as enjoyable to perform as it was to compose. (This piece is not intended to be performed together with 'Big Bob's Special-).
