"Danse du Grand Calumet de la Paix" (Dance of the Great Peace Pipe), also known as "Danse des Sauvages" is one of the most well known pieces from Jean-Philippe Rameau's "Les Indes Galantes" (1735). It appears in the final "Entree" of the Opera-Ballet and sets the scene for a grove in an American forest on the border of the Frence and Spanish colonies.
This piece is used at the Palace of Versailles every year as part of the dancing items at their grand costume ball, so if you'd like to bring some grandeur from the court of Louis XIV to your event or concert, look no further!
This string quartet arrangement was premiered at a costume ball in Edinburgh in March 2024.
