Dirty Old Town was written by Ewan MacColl in 1949 as part of the music for a play entitled Landscape and
Chimneys. Although inspired by the North of England, it is now associated strongly with Irish music, due to commercially-successful versions recorded by both The Dubliners and The Pogues.
This arrangement is ideal for intermediate guitarists. The pentatonic melody, familiar chords and guitar-friendly keys should cause no difficulty for those less-experienced in ensemble playing.
The melodic interest is shared across all four parts within the arrangement.
