Famously adapted by Simon and Garfunkel with the words "I'd rather be a hammer than a nail" the origins of this melody are traced back to the Peruvian Andes. It was also used by the composer Daniel AlomÃa Robles in a Zarzuela in 1913. Nowadays the song is played by Andean pipe flute ensembles in tourist spots all over the world.
