The subject of this hymn is inspired by writings attributed to Abraham (and considered canonic scripture in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) which names Kolob as a star located near the throne of God. Thus, the text of this hymn is an extended rumination on the expanse of creation and the eternal nature of God.
