Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4380-EX).‘New Forest Suite’ was written in early 2024. Commissioned by my good friend, USA artist/ guitarist Martin P. Olson, it is a reminiscence of a time in September 2023, when Martin came to stay at my house in Hampshire, South UK. The suite is comprised of six ‘greeting cards’, descriptive of our time together.
1. Prelude: Morning Stroll
Recalling a relaxing 5km walk with Martin, from my house, along meandering lanes to the village of Wickham and back.
2. Galliard
A reference to the second movement of ‘Suite en Modo Polonico’ by Alexandre Tansman - a piece that Martin and I have a mutual affection for.
3. The Mysterious Hare
A memory of seeing a very large wild hare sitting alone in a field while we were on one of our walking treks together.
4. New Forest Plains
The New Forest is an area of natural beauty in Hampshire, Southern England. It includes one of the largest remaining pieces of open pastureland, heathland and forest in the UK.
5. Wind Through the Forest
My recollection of the wind whistling through tall, densely packed pine trees in the New Forest.
6. Country Dance
A musical finale, conjured from our visit to the village of Wickham on a busy fair day.
« New Forest Suite » a été écrite début 2024. Commandée par mon bon ami, l'artiste/guitariste américain Martin P. Olson, c'est un souvenir d'une époque en septembre 2023, lorsque Martin est venu séjourner chez moi dans le Hampshire, dans le sud du Royaume-Uni. La suite est composée de six « cartes de vœux », décrivant notre temps passé ensemble.
1. Prélude : Promenade matinale
Rappelant une promenade relaxante de 5 km avec Martin, depuis ma maison, le long de ruelles sinueuses jusqu'au village de Wickham et retour.
2. Galliard
Une référence au deuxième mouvement de « Suite en Modo Polonico » d'Alexandre Tansman - une pièce pour laquelle Martin et moi avons une affection mutuelle.
3. Le lièvre mystérieux
Un souvenir d'avoir vu un très grand lièvre sauvage assis seul dans un champ alors que nous étions en train de faire l'une de nos randonnées ensemble.
4. Plaines de la Nouvelle Forêt
La New Forest est une région de beauté naturelle dans le Hampshire, dans le sud de l'Angleterre. Il comprend l'une des plus grandes étendues restantes de pâturages ouverts, de landes et de forêts au Royaume-Uni.
5. Le vent à travers la forêt
Mon souvenir du vent sifflant à travers les pins hauts et denses de la New Forest.
6. Country Dance
Une finale musicale, évoquée lors de notre visite au village de Wickham lors d'une journée de foire très fréquentée.
