Traditional French folk song Sur le Pont d'Avignon (On the Bridge of Avignon) is a popular folk song loved by children. The origin of the song dates back to 15th century France. The song is about dancing in circles, originally "under" the bridge but the lyric has evolved and changed to "on" the bridge. I recall hearing young children singing the easy to remember tune in the playground and have remembered it for a long time.
