Composed by Anthony Mancini. Entrance music for a Marian feast. Marian, Liturgy. Octavo. Published by CanticaNOVA Publications (C5.3141).

Salve Regina is the Entrance Song from the composer's Mother of Mercy Mass. The triumphant refrain for congregation has the text, "Salve Regina! Hail, holy Queen enthroned above, our life, our sweetness, our hope!" The final refrain is embellished with choral harmonies and descants. The verses are taken from the Litany of Loreto, a Medieval Marian litany approved for public recitation by Pope Sixtus V in 1587. Men and women from the choir alternate in singing various invocations from the litany, followed by "Pray for us." On some verses, a soloist sings the invocations over a choral background in Latin ("Salve Regina, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus."). This Salve Regina is not difficult for either congregation or choir, but it does require sopranos and tenors who are comfortable with high As on the final descant. The Mass was commissioned to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The composer, Msgr. Anthony Mancini, is rector and director of music at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence RI.
