An alluringly neoromantic concert piece in five sections based on the anonymous English renaissance melody "Westron Wynde" and other early music sources.
This was originally written for a Delian composers' Suite called Siyotanka intended for James Pellerite, so the flute part would suit a North American Native flute or a standard concert flute.
The story of Siyotanka is summarised as follows:
A young hunter, having fashioned the first flute from the branch of a cedar tree, has fallen in love with the daughter of a powerful chief. As she sits at home, the strange music of the flute fills the air, and her feet fel an irresistible urge to discover its source. She soon finds herself in the arms of her young suitor.
Movements:
Largo amoroso [2/2, c, M]
Presto [4/4 and 3/4, c, M]
Allegretto (after Adam de la Halle) [3/4, E-flat, E+]
Vivace (after Michele Pesenti) [6/8, c, M+]
Largo amoroso [2/2, c, M]
