It would make for not only effective recital and lesson material but a place could be easily found for it in the worship service where it could serve as a general postlude. It is suitable for when a shorter, stand alone fugue in 4 voices is desirable and it isn't necessary to play for a long time. This music is adaptable to the occasion depending upon the choice of stops and would come across using a more modest "gap" registration at a softer dynamic reflecting a more relaxed, melodic mood. Its subject begins on scale degree 1 and is supplied with a real answer in the dominant. This piece is written in triple counterpoint with 2 countersubjects maintained throughout, passes through all nearly related keys, and the final entry is in the home key in the bottom octave of the pedal. A short coda ending on a Picardy 3rd rounds out the piece. In this work the stretch for the hands is kept at an octave or less.
