This work was composed for an organ with 2 manuals and pedals minimum.  It would make for not only effective recital and lesson material but a place could be easily found for it in the worship service where it might serve as a quiet prelude or offertory, with the Fugue possibly reserved for the postlude.  This piece consists of a 4 voice Fugue written in triple counterpoint with 2 countersubjects maintained throughout which is preceded by a related Introduction developed in continuous expansion form.  This Introduction is an extended passage of quiet polyphony in trio texture which develops a theme by rhythmic transformation of the Fugue's subject, thus providing a very strong sense of unity to the work.  As the 3-part fabric of the Introduction proceeds, which seems made for quiet 8-foot foundations stops, the Fugue's 2 countersubjects are introduced into it which adds to the sense of unity in the work.  The inverse of the theme is introduced finally along with a 4th voice, and this part of the work closes on a half cadence.  The related Fugue's subject begins on scale degree 1 and is supplied with a real answer in the dominant.  The exposition is remarkable in that the 4th entry ends with an unusual deceptive cadence that modulates immediately back to the tonic key for the 1st episode.  The music passes through all nearly related keys and leads to a decrescendo with the texture unraveling to 2 voices which is expanded to 5 voices in stretto, the added 5th voice being a low tenor (baritone).  Here the subject, its inverse, and the 1st countersubject all make entries in the hands in C Major tonality over a subdominant pedal point on low C.  Halfway through this coda the music modulates back to the home key (still over a held low C pedal) and undergoes a final crescendo before coming to a momentary stop on a held diminished 7th penultimate chord.  The final tonic chord is in 8 voices with an added 6th using the full power of the organ.  In this work the stretch for the hands is kept at an octave or less.  Registration suggestions along with indications for hand division are included with the score.  Length:  128 measures.  Duration:  4:38.  Composers Bio page:  OrganBench.com     .
