This work was composed for an organ with 2 manuals and pedals minimum.  It would make for not only effective recital and lesson material but a place could be easily found for it in the worship service where it might serve as a general prelude, with the Fugue possibly reserved for the postlude.  The Prelude itself begins and is constructed as would be an improvisation in 6 parts on a single free theme (a method favored by Louis Vierne), only in compressed (shortened) form.  Its theme is the Fugue's 2nd countersubject extended slightly, which lends a very strong sense of unity to the entire work.  The 3rd and final entry of the theme is scored for a flute solo in the right hand against chromatically winding left hand chords scored for a Celeste stop.  The Prelude ends very quietly and delicately in a mere 4 voices.  The related 4 voice Fugue which follows restores a solid forte dynamic and is written in triple counterpoint with 2 countersubjects maintained throughout.  For those theorists who teach and maintain that fugues do not start on scale degree 3, this Fugue (along with the Op. 19 Fugue and Op. 29 Postlude) shows this to be factually inaccurate.  Its subject begins very boldly on scale degree 3, and, since its "tail" (last few notes) points strongly to the dominant key (which any fugue subject MUST if it starts on the 3rd scale degree), a real answer in the dominant is supplied.  The Fugue passes through all nearly related keys and includes an additional entry in the unrelated key of c minor before the final entry.  It finishes in 6 voices with an extended, animated coda over the full power of the instrument.  In this work the stretch for the hands is kept at an octave or less.  Registration suggestions along with indications for hand division are included with the score.  Length:  155 measures.  Duration:  6:13.  Composer Bio page:  OrganBench.com  .
